Acid and Alkaline Food

Alkaline Food

Vitamin K, magnesium, calcium and sodium are vitamins and minerals considered to have an alkalizing effect on the body.

tMost vegetables are alkaline. For example green leafy vegetables, root vegetables, lentils, almonds, millet, buckwheat and brown rice are all alkaline and have a positive effect on our bodies. Vegetables are mostly alkaline when they are raw and lose much of this valuable feature when they are cooked.

Acidic Food

Examples of acidic foods are animal products, like meat and diary products, processed foods, bread, chocolate, soft drinks and coffee. While beans are considered acidic, they are healthy in small amounts.
Fruit are also mostly acidic, except from avocado.

Minerals that are considered acid-forming are nitrogen, phosphorus and chloride.

* The examples of above alkaline and acid forming foods are written based on my own experience. In research, there are various opinions about which foods are acidic and which are alkaline, depending on how the pH is measured. It is best to listen to your own body and eat what feels right to you. While it is easy to get a surplus of acid in the body with today’s diets, it is much harder to become too alkaline, so it is something we rarely have to worry about.
