Preparing Food

How to encourage children to eat more fruit and vegetables.

Children are creative and love being involved in preparing food in the kitchen.
Consider letting them:

- wash the fruit
- decorate a plate with fresh fruit and slices
- choose the fruit and vegetables in their own smoothie
- divide up lettuce for salads between bowls
- part florets from the cauliflower and broccoli stem
- decorate the serving plate for dinner

For older children try teaching them how to:
- peel carrots
- chop vegetables
- make spaghetti with a vegetable peeler or spiral slicer
- mix salad dressing with a hand whisk
- set the table and fold napkins
- make up a flower bouquet to decorate the dinner table

Also invite your children to make easy meals like salads and desserts, and present the dishes like Daniel´s salad and Jenny´s fruit tart. Even small children can help washing fruit, topping breakfast cereals with berries and sprinkling a salad with seasoning.
